Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is Higher Vibes Studios?
Higher Vibes is a community-rooted creative hub in Austin. It’s home to artists, small businesses, event curators, and culture-shifters. We host everything from markets and festivals to workshops, art shows, and fashion shows. More than just a building, Higher Vibes is a movement.

Q: How did Higher Vibes get started?
Higher Vibes began when founder Xanya Davis, a fourth-generation Austinite and lifelong creative, took a leap of faith. After running her loc business, Loc Goddess X, for a year in the same building, the property managers gave tenants a 45-day notice to vacate. Instead of leaving, Xanya decided to take over the lease — with no outside funding, no prior experience, and a lot of determination.

That leap set the stage for what Higher Vibes would become. The story didn’t really come alive, though, until the crew behind Bring Back the Weird (BBTW) began to gather.

Q: What is Bring Back the Weird (BBTW)?
BBTW is the creative heartbeat of Higher Vibes. It started with Kendra, whose vision to keep Austin’s weird alive through art gave the collective its name and spirit. Chelsea, an event curator and longtime friend of Xanya’s, helped connect the dots by introducing her to Kendra and Rayevn — a multidisciplinary artist and curator whose skills have contiuously help keep Higher Vibes thriving.

Along the way, Nadia joined as a committed member, showing up through the ups and downs and helping build momentum. And Gothess Jasmine (they/them), a constant source of creative inspiration, always shows up ans has left a deep imprint on everyone involved — their ideas and presence continue to shape both BBTW and Higher Vibes today.

Together, BBTW transformed Higher Vibes from “just another building” into a true movement.

Q: What is Vibehaus?
Vibehaus is the next chapter — a storefront-style expansion that doubles as an art shop, gallery, and flexible event space. It’s the bridge between Higher Vibes and the wider community, where Austin Studio Tour (AST) exhibits, pop-up markets, and curated shows will thrive.

Q: What makes Higher Vibes different from other event spaces?
Higher Vibes isn’t a blank rental. It’s a living platform for resistance, art, and liberation. We champion marginalized voices, center community, and infuse creativity into every corner. Every tenant, every event, every mural adds to the collective story.

Q: What kinds of events happen here?
Markets, art shows, live music, festivals, workshops, weddings, networking mixers, leadership meetups, survival summits — if it builds community or pushes creativity, it has a place here. Past highlights include:

  • Weird Homecoming

  • New Year, New Friends Networking Event

  • Resistance Training: Leadership Meetup & Survival Summit

  • Weird Wedding

And coming soon: our September Fashion Show + the official launch of Vibehaus.

Q: How can I get involved?

  • Apply as an artist, vendor, curator, performer, or volunteer.

  • Join the BBTW/Higher Vibes directory.

  • Sign up for our newsletter.

Q: What does the future look like for Higher Vibes?
The story is still unfolding. With Vibehaus opening, Austin Studio Tour participation, new residencies, and larger festivals on the horizon, Higher Vibes is just getting started. What began as one person’s leap of faith has grown into a collective force — and it’s only going higher from here.
